In a vote that has seriously undermined the legitimacy of UK PM Boris Johnson, the UK Parliament today passed laws mandating vaccine passports for entry into large venues and nightclubs. The law was rejected by over 100 Conservative MP’s, meaning that Johnson had to rely on the opposition Labour party to get the law passed.
Despite repeated assurances from Health Minister Sajid Javid that “this is not a vaccine passport,” it is obvious that this is indeed exactly what has been voted in.

From Wednesday, you will have to show a pass on the NHS app to access nightclubs, indoor unseated venues with more than 500 people, unseated outdoor venues with more than 4,000 people or any venue with more than 10,000 people.
MPs also voted to back compulsory face masks in most indoor settings.
Now that the COVID pass-system has been implemented, it will be easy to roll it out to other venues as winter progresses and normal winter deaths rise.
The rules will be reviewed on the fifth of January and will be automatically repealed on the 26th of January. If the government wishes to renew the rules, they must put the question before the house. However, given the current composition of the UK parliament and Labour always voting with the conservatives, there is essentially now a monolithic block that cannot be opposed which can be used to pass any legislation the government wishes.
It is almost certain that now the rules have been voted in, they will be renewed again for another month in a tactic that has been used a number of times by the current government when it comes to COVID emergency powers.
