A ballgirl at the Australian Open is recovering after collapsing on the court during a match, with the two players involved racing to her aid. Spain’s Pedro Martinez and Federico Delbonis of Argentina were playing a first-round match on Court 17 at Melbourne Park when the ballgirl suddenly collapsed.

Spain’s Martinez rushed to the ballkid’s aid.

Delbonis had been serving in an opening-set tiebreaker when the girl collapsed. Martinez immediately rushed from the far side of the court to the aid of the young girl, with both players staying with her until help arrived.

The girl was then checked by tournament medical staff and a dedicated ballkid nurse before being taken by her parents.

The Australian Open is probably delighted to be getting some different sort of attention in its first round after a massive international controversy sparked by top-rated Novak Djokovic, who was denied an Australian visa due to not having received the COVID-19 vaccine.
