SERBIA – FK Partizan Belgrado player Ricardo Gomes has collapsed in training less than six weeks after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine. The condition of the team’s top scorer is considered “extremely serious”, according to head coach Aleksandar Stanojevic.
It was first thought that Gomes had suffered minor complications after his collapse at training. However, the situation is considered far more serious as head coach Stanojevic’s said at a recent press conference.
“He [Gomes] collapsed in training and the situation is extremely serious.”
Gomes, 29, who is considered one of the best players in the Serbian SuperLiga, received his shot at the end of October along with teammate Quincy Menig and coach Stanojevic, who personally took Gomes to the vaccination site allegedly because he was reluctant to receive the jab.
Coach Stanojevic commented that each player is responsible for the team.
“Everyone who is on this team must be responsible for each other. If this was an individual sport then it was different and then you can do whatever you want as an individual.”
Gomes, who was one of the top scorers in the league this season, faces a long recovery and it is the question of whether the 29-year-old will appear on the pitch again this season.
