As winter intensifies, the push to get jabs into the arms of younger and younger people is accelerating. Israel has just announced the start of COVID-19 vaccination for kids in the 5-11 years age bracket, while the EU is not far behind, with the European Medicines Agency announcing its approval today of the Pfizer jab for children in the same age range.

The child vaccination effort in Israel kicked off on Tuesday with the son of Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennet getting his jab on TV with his father holding his hand. Naftali’s son, David, said that he was a ‘little scared’ but that the shot ‘didn’t hurt’.

After the televised vaccination, Bennet urged all eligible Israeli children to get their shots.

“I call on all Israeli parents to come and have their children vaccinated. It is safe and it safeguards our children.”

Meanwhile, the approval of the EMA now clears the way for the shots to be given to 5-11-year-olds in Europe. The Agency said that a panel of ‘experts’ recommended granting an extension of indication for the COVID-19 vaccine Comirnaty to include use in children aged 5 to 11.
